Set in the midst of fields, a country home welcomes travelers on the way.

This is August, deep in the summer in the country, when all the grass that was green in the spring turns golden and ready for autumn’s rains. The wheat harvest on the farms is over, and there is a sleepy break in the middle of the season before fall’s plantings begin.

Because of the heat of the season, it is a sleepy time overall, and for those who don’t have air conditioning (not everyone does), the pace of life slows once the coolness of the morning wears off. In the evening, it is time to sit on the porch with a cool drink and review the day.

August, the artwork, is a reminder to us to slow down, to stop taking life so seriously, to put aside our list – mental or actual – and take a siesta from all the busyness. I am a fine art painter who creates representational images celebrating light, life, and color. A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 13 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought.
